Maisy Kay's journey into the music industry started at just 10 years old when she wrote a musical that her primary school performed - now, she's touring with Tori Kelly and collaborating with Tiësto.

The rising LA-based artist is inventing her own sub-genre of pop music, with her signature blend of fantasy and pop. Her new single "Technicolor Honeymoon" is topping the Pop Charts and reaching #5 on the YouTube Charts with over a million views, and now she's preparing to debut her new single "Love Is A God" on September 6, 2024, and release her EP "Wonderlust: The Dusk" later this Fall.

Can you share how you first broke into the music industry and what drew you to this career?

I would say my music career first started when I was 10. I wrote a musical, which my primary school performed for their summer play. I made the local papers, a recording studio saw the article and offered for me to come in and record my own songs, and the rest is history!

With “Technicolor Honeymoon” achieving impressive milestones, including topping the Pop Charts and reaching #5 on the YouTube Charts with 1 million views, how has this success influenced your career trajectory and shaped your plans for future projects?

It’s been truly wonderful and unbelievable. It’s almost jarring to see numbers like that, and I definitely had to ask everyone around me multiple times if those numbers were in fact true. I love the new eyes it’s brought on my music, and I love my long term fans that made it happen even more.

You’re currently touring with Tori Kelly on her Purple Skies World Tour this Summer/Fall 2024. What aspects of this tour are you most excited about, and how have you prepped to share the stage with her?

I have been so excited to start the tour in Asia, and visit so many places I’d never been before. I’m definitely trying to keep my health in tip-top shape, and I’m doing my vocal warm ups and drinking my throat coat tea religiously!

Reflecting on your experience with JVKE’s “What Tour Feels Like” summer tour across the U.S. in 2023, how did that tour shape your music and approach to upcoming projects?

I think it made a huge difference in my abilities as a song writer and performer...It added a whole new element to my writing as I would think “how will this sound live, how can we make this even cooler on stage.” Those are questions I wouldn’t have even thought about before the JVKE tour!

Having collaborated with industry giants like Timbaland and Tiësto, how have these experiences impacted your music and creative process? Are there any standout moments from working with these iconic figures that you’d like to share?

It’s truly been an honor to get to work with such creative forces, and the thing I’d love to share is that they were both so lovely and down to earth. It’s something you don’t always see in this industry, and I really appreciated how personable they are as well as how they saw and treated me as a person, not a product.

Outside of music, you’re passionate about video games, art, and archery. How do these interests influence your music and creative approach?

I try to incorporate video game and fantasy elements into my work whenever I can! I am a video game fanatic, through and through, and I think that’s part of why I really wanted to lean into this fantasy, fictional, “larger than life” persona. I find it so fun to see how creative we can get with it, and I love to leave little Easter eggs along the way.

Your new single “Love Is A God” is set to debut on September 6, 2024, followed by your EP “Wonderlust: The Dusk” later in the Fall. Can you give us a sneak peek into the themes and sounds of the single and EP, and how they evolve from your previous work?

Wonderlust: The Dusk is a sister project and continuation of my prior EP, Wonderlust: The Dawn. It expands a little bit on the concept of the first EP, and Love Is A God is sort of a deeper look into those stages of falling in love. It’s past infatuation, and it’s more adoration. There are some darker, grungier moments, but I also think lyrically I try to dig a bit deeper and delve further into the progress of a longer-term relationship, and how encapsulating that can be. It’s the magic of the honeymoon phase passing, but still feeling like you’re in it, and exploring that bond you build with someone in a more extended setting.
