Congratulations on your recent song release, ‘Hit the Ground’! Tell us about the inspiration behind this dreamy, dance pop track.
This track just flowed out really nicely. It was inspired by a tough spot in my relationship, however whilst writing it me and my partner were definitely out of the rough spot and in an amazing place so for me I guess it was a final goodbye to those feelings I once had and to sort of get it all out to then let it go.
What are the most rewarding and challenging moments when releasing new music, specifically ‘Hit the Ground’?
I think it’s always challenging to get people to listen and really support you, but that’s generally he challenge with most tracks. That’s why I am soooo thankful to everyone who listens and comments on posts on social media and shares my music with their friends etc. A little goes such a long way and it never goes unappreciated. The most rewarding is definitely when I do get messages from people saying they love what I do and that I should keep going. I need this support sometimes so it’s super nice.
Growing up across Australia, Sweden, Norway, and the UK, can you give us some insight into how your upbringing has influenced your creative process?
Because I moved around a lot growing up, I think I latched onto music even more. It became my identity when I was already 14, and I think in many ways it made it easier for me to fit in and find my ‘’people’’ when I moved to a new place.
How would you describe your musical style and the genre you feel most connected to at this point in your career?
I would say my music is very melodic, emotional and deep. I think my music is a combination of pop and dance but also I’d like to think it was a bit of a singer/songwriter feel and I want to bring more of that and more of a folky indie touch into it also to bring my roots into it more!
What does a day in the life of Lilly Ahlberg look like?
Wake up around 6am, go to the gym, come back and get ready for the day! After that it’s either diving into writing vocals on tracks, or recording vocals, or going to a session to write with other producers and writers. Home around 6pm, make dinner and hang out with my boyfriend before going to bed at around 9pm! Yes I go to bed early and wake up early!
You have an amazing fashion sense! How would you describe your style in 3 words?
Thank you so much! I guess I would describe it as minimal, masculine & relaxed.
What can fans and new listeners expect from you in 2024? Any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're excited to share with your audience?
Just a lot more music! I already have 2 releases planned, one in March and one in April. I’m also writing for other artists and DJs so hopefully there will be more music coming out that way too. I’m focusing on producing my own music too so hopefully I’ll have more production credits on tracks coming out too.
