From All-Pro NFL Punter to all-star artist, Marquette King’s talents go far beyond the football field. His pursuit of songwriting, acting, and sound came naturally to him, as the award-winning athlete searched for an avenue of creative expression to balance out the physical, technical side of his athletic career. Now, Marquette creates genre-defying music, expressing his emotions with a mix of EDM, House, and Pop-Hop sounds.

In a candid interview with Marquette King, the multi-talented athlete-artist discusses his recent single and reminisces his heartwarming highlights in the NFL.

"I Can Kick A Ball" is your new single released on January 7th. What motivated you to create a song with such a unique title, and what can listeners expect from this track?

The title came from what I do as an athlete, which is kicking the ball ahah. It is part of my lifestyle and part of my career.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest singles, "Sweet Tea" and "Summer Nights"? How do these songs reflect your personal style and experiences?

A mixture to a country feel / suburban style mix ties between what I listen to most of my life.

Your music video for "Summer Nights" premiered on December 7th. How involved are you in the creative process of your music videos, and what do you enjoy most about bringing your songs to life visually?

When I shoot a video I tell my creative director, Jodi Ferguson, what I want done and give her the free range to execute.

Are there any specific artists or genres that have influenced your musical style? How have these influences shaped your sound throughout your musical journey?

Calvin Harris, who is my favorite, shaped a huge part of me wanting to create and gave me inspo.

Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations in both the music industry and your sports career? How do you envision balancing these two aspects of your life in the future?

Working out and getting it done early, help is great, because I use the rest of the day to create and work on my music.

What motivated you to pursue a career in football, and how did you develop your skills as a punter?

It was a hobby that turned into a job, which is something that I enjoyed. Doing something you love doesn’t feel like a job.

You've played in the NFL for several seasons. What have been the highlights of your career so far?

It is hard to pinpoint one thing, but hearing a fan singing a song while on the field while walking off was heartwarming and gives me inspiration.

How do you handle the pressure that comes with being a punter in the NFL, especially in critical game situations?

There is no pressure from my point of view. I just get it done and do not think about the pressure or worry about the influence of others.

What advice would you give punters in high school and college trying to make it into the NFL?

I would say work really hard at what you want and be the best version of yourself that you can be and do not listen to the outstand noise and pay attention to all aspects of the game on and off the field.

How do you prepare mentally for games, and are there any specific rituals or routines you follow?

Get a good breakfast and try not to overthink things.

Are there specific accomplishments or milestones you aim to achieve in the coming years?

I want to be known globally as an artist and want my music to thrive and touch others.
